This Virtual Ethernet Hub makes it easy as never before to connect devices, computers, and network segments into a network. It eliminates the hassle of carrying an extra hardware and searching for power outlets when a single laptop can be instantly converted into a network hub with individual settings for each port. Its lightweight implementation as an application reduces interference with other programs. Its convenient selection of network cards as hub ports adds the flexibility of choosing the most appropriate hardware for the job and fine tuning its parameters. By assigning a wireless network card to a hub port, Virtual Ethernet Hub gains the capability of connecting (dial-out only) to WiFi networks to share network with other computers. The connecting and disconnecting of network segments of wireless and wired media types becomes an easy task. Each port can be designated as Smart or Dumb to limit or broaden traffic visibility when network monitoring is used. The port exclusivity settings allow or prohibit the local use of network cards already assigned as network hub ports. The restriction of support to only static IPs ensures consistent connectivity of devices and networks each time the Virtual Ethernet Hub is used.
Virtual Ethernet Hub has the visual appearance of a standard Ethernet hub, thus creates a familiar environment for users and allows to relate functionality and settings to the hardware everybody used to using.
Virtual Ethernet Hub places its icon on the system tray. It hides
its main window when minimized, then lives on the system tray.
To assemble a virtual Ethernet hub use the "Link" button next to the network adapter. The network adapter will be added to the first available slot. If no slots are available, one would automatically be created.
To remove a network adapter assignment from a network hub slot, click "Unlink" button next to the adapter or the "Unlink" button on the network hub slot.
Once a network adapter is assigned to a slot, it starts working immediately as a part of the network hub. Each slot has its own settings that can be changed to improve the performance or to adjust the other slot behaviors. The slot settings can be changed by clicking "Slot Settings" button.
Smart mode - enables the smart routing mode. In this mode, only the traffic intended for the connected device is routed through the slot. It is the most efficient mode.
Dumb mode (default) - enables the mode when all packets that are passing through the hub are forwarded(cloned) to the slot. This mode is usually used for network monitoring. It is less efficient than the Smart mode due to increased number of forwarded packets.
Exclusive mode - sets the exclusive mode for the slot. Other local programs would not be able to use it (the slot and the associated with it network adapter) for communication.
Non-exclusive mode (default) - sets non-exclusive mode for the slot. In this mode, the associated network adapter can be used for communication by other local programs including web browsers.
