Installation Troubleshooting - Clean up of settings from prior installations

This article applies to the following products:

Installed Verigio products store their settings within the registry and on the file system.

The registry storage location:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Verigio

The file system locations:

  • The device driver is installed into Windows and stored in c:\Windows\System32\drivers\verigio_*.sys and c:\Windows\Inf\
  • The program files are stored within the install folder selected during the installation. The default install location is: "c:\Program Files\Verigio\%PRODUCTNAME%\"
  • The user interface settings: "c:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Verigio_Inc\%PRODUCTNAME%_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\"
  • The full set of product settings (including a copy of the user interface and licenses) stored by the service: "c:\Users\All Users\Verigio\%PRODUCTNAME%Svc\"

Upon uninstall, only the program files and the device driver are uninstalled and removed from the system. Other settings are left on the system even after the product uninstall.

Whenever a newer version of a product is attempted to be installed over the existing one, the installer attempts to upgrade the old settings. The installer attempts to upgrade even from very-very old settings (not necessarily from the directly preceding product version). To prevent the settings upgrade and to force the installer to perform the clean setup, the old settings are needed to be removed manually. They are needed to be removed for all previously installed versions of that product. The locations to be removed/deleted manually:

  • The user interface settings: "c:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Verigio_Inc\%PRODUCTNAME%_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\*.*"
  • The full set of product settings (including a copy of the user interface and licenses) stored by the service: "c:\Users\All Users\Verigio\%PRODUCTNAME%Svc\*.*"
